In recent years, Spain’s automotive industry has undergone significant changes: Chinese manufacturers have firmly established themselves in the market. Their vehicles stand out not only for their attractive pricing but also for their modern technological solutions, allowing them to compete with traditional European and Japanese brands.
Since 2024, Chinese brands have taken up nearly 5% of total car sales in the country. Their presence is especially prominent in the electric vehicle segment, where they already hold a 13% market share. For instance, MG has surpassed well-known brands like Opel and Ford in sales, with the MG4 model ranking among the top three electric cars.
Spain is becoming a key launchpad for Chinese automakers entering the European market. Contributing factors include its advanced port infrastructure, which enables rapid delivery of large shipments, and the flexibility of local consumers, who readily embrace new brands. Unlike other European countries, Spaniards are not tied to national makes and are open to experimentation.
Among the most in-demand models are the Bestune T77—a compact crossover with a 160 hp petrol engine and extensive features. Its starting price is €23,780. The electric BYD Atto 2 offers a range of up to 312 km and starts at €25,790, while the city BYD Dolphin Surf, with two power options and a range of up to 322 km, is available from €18,780.
The DFSK 500 is a versatile SUV with gas compatibility and an automatic transmission, available starting at €16,995. The hybrid Ebro S400, jointly developed by Spanish and Chinese companies, features a 211 hp engine and starts at €20,990.
Jaecoo 7, assembled at the former Nissan plant in Barcelona, stands out with seven driving modes, all-wheel drive, and an extended engine warranty. Its price starts at €26,890. The compact electric Leapmotor T03, with a range of up to 300 km and 95 hp, is available for €18,600.
The MG ZS, produced by SAIC’s subsidiary, comes in both petrol and hybrid versions. This SUV offers a spacious trunk and modern features, with a starting price of €16,890.
The arrival of Chinese cars in Spain proves that electric vehicles and modern crossovers are becoming increasingly accessible to a wide audience. The new models offer a range of engines—from petrol to fully electric—as well as a high level of equipment, making them attractive for buyers seeking the best value for money.
