The Moroccan national team achieved a remarkable feat by winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup. In the final match held in Santiago, the African side confidently defeated Argentina thanks to two accurate strikes from Yasir Zabiri.
On their way to the title, Morocco left behind such strong teams as Spain, Brazil, and France. In the decisive match, Mohamed Ouahbi’s squad took the initiative from the opening minutes, actively using the flanks and demonstrating a quick transition to attack.
The first goal came as early as the 12th minute. Zabiri earned a free kick near the opponent’s penalty area and then converted it himself, sending the ball into the net with a precise left-footed strike. Seventeen minutes later, Morocco doubled their advantage: Ohman Maamma, who plays for English side Watford, broke down the right wing and delivered a pinpoint pass to Zabiri, who scored his second goal.
Argentina tried to change the course of the match by creating several dangerous chances near the opponent’s goal. Silvetti and Prestianni stood out with their efforts, but the Moroccan defense was impeccable, and goalkeeper Gomis did not allow the opposition to reduce the deficit.
In the second half, Argentina’s coaching staff made several substitutions, hoping to inject fresh energy and sharpness into the attack. However, Morocco maintained their focus, defended skillfully, and did not allow their rivals to turn the game around.
This achievement marked a historic milestone for Moroccan football. Young talents like Maamma and Zabiri have now attracted the attention of top clubs and experts worldwide. The victory also coincided with a prediction by renowned coach Carlos Bilardo, who had previously noted the potential of African teams in this tournament.
