At the annual Generació Propòsit forum in Barcelona, leading analysts and media representatives gathered to discuss the shifting balance of power in the world and Spain’s role in these changes. The spotlight was on the aftermath of recent political events in the United States and the growing challenges facing Europe against the backdrop of today’s unstable global climate.
Participants noted that the political landscape in the US is becoming increasingly unpredictable. Recent elections in New York, Virginia, and New Jersey revealed that traditional strategies are no longer effective. The Democratic Party is now facing pressure to rethink its approach to retain influence at the national level. These changes in America are directly impacting European countries, including Spain, which must adapt to the new realities.
Special attention was given to Spain’s role in NATO and the European Union. Experts highlighted criticism the country faces over insufficient defense funding, causing frustration among some allies. At the same time, Spain remains a key player in European politics, despite pressure from the US and ongoing challenges within the EU.
According to the participants, Europe maintains unique values and legal principles that set it apart from other regions. However, its dependence on external energy suppliers, China’s influence on the economy, and the need to ensure security using American resources add further challenges. These factors are forcing European countries to seek new ways to strengthen their own independence and resilience.
Youth and the Future of Europe
A special focus at the forum was dedicated to working with young participants. The Generació Propòsit program, organized by the Fundació Princesa de Girona, aims to help young people develop the skills necessary to create projects with social impact. This year, 50 people aged 20 to 30 are taking part in the event, discussing issues of healthcare, ecology, and equal opportunity.
Organizers are confident that it is the new generation that can offer fresh solutions to the challenges facing Spain and Europe. At a time when familiar mechanisms are failing, young people’s initiatives are especially important for shaping the continent’s future.
