Attack on Police Officers in Central Alcalá de Henares
On the night of November 9, a shocking incident took place in the heart of Alcalá de Henares. Two off-duty police officers were attacked by a group of men. The assault was sudden—police had been heading home after dinner with colleagues from the city’s operations unit when the attackers ambushed them from behind, leaving no chance to defend themselves.
The victims suffered serious injuries: one lost three teeth and partially lost vision in one eye, while the other was diagnosed with a broken collarbone. Two more officers who were walking ahead were unable to intervene, but provided first aid and accompanied the wounded to the hospital.
Operation to Apprehend Suspects and Progress of the Investigation
Police immediately launched a special operation to track down and detain the attackers. The first suspect was arrested the day of the incident, and within the next ten days, three more were taken into custody. Two of them were placed in pre-trial detention, while the others await a court decision. All detainees face charges of assault and attacking law enforcement officers.
One of the latest arrests took place not in Alcalá de Henares, but in Madrid’s La Latina district. The investigation is ongoing, and police stress that such actions will not go unpunished.
Police Response and Demands to Authorities
The incident sparked a strong reaction among law enforcement officials. Unions have once again raised the issue of officially recognizing the police profession as particularly dangerous and implementing additional protection measures. They argue that attacks on officers, both on duty and off, are becoming a worrying trend.
The incident in Alcalá de Henares occurred just hours after another serious event—in Sevilla, a police officer was severely injured during an operation against drug traffickers. These incidents have intensified demands for urgent reforms in the judicial and police systems to improve officer safety.
