Over a three-week period, the editorial team tested the Citroën C3 equipped with a 1.2 turbo gasoline engine delivering 100 hp and a six-speed manual transmission. This version is the most affordable in the lineup and is aimed at those seeking an inexpensive, practical city car without complex hybrid technology.
On the outside, the C3 stands out with its compact dimensions and youthful appearance. The tested Max trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a two-tone roof, automatic climate control, a rearview camera, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen display. Such a set of features is rarely seen in this price segment. The base price starts at 15,940 euros, while the Max version is priced at 20,250 euros. The price-to-equipment ratio appears well balanced.
Despite its modest size (length of 4.01 m), the interior is designed for four adults, and the trunk is suitable for short trips. The cabin features simple materials, typical for entry-level models, but the build quality raises no concerns. There’s enough space inside, and the seating is comfortable for daily commutes.
The C3’s suspension delivers a smooth ride even on uneven city streets. The car handles road imperfections well, which has a positive effect on comfort. However, the driver’s ergonomics could be improved: the seats feel firm and flat, and the steering wheel adjustment is limited, which is especially noticeable on long journeys.
During testing, the car showed an average fuel consumption of about 5.5 liters per 100 km. With calm driving, it managed to reach 3.8 liters, which theoretically allows for more than 1,100 km on a single 44-liter tank. In real conditions, the range is 600-700 km.
The three-cylinder engine provides sufficient performance for both city and highway driving, and the six-speed manual gearbox operates precisely. The model is not sporty in nature, but its agility and stability meet the expectations for a city car.
After extensive use, the Citroën C3 with a gasoline engine leaves the impression of being an honest and practical car. It does not aim to appear premium, but fully accomplishes the tasks it was designed for. This is a sensible choice for those who value efficiency, simple maintenance, and the traditional comfort of the French brand, despite some ergonomic compromises.
