BYD Sales in Spain Increased Fivefold in August 2025

Chinese BYD strengthens its position in the Spanish electric vehicle market

In August, BYD showed significant growth in Spain. The company boosted sales of electric vehicles. Its market share increased noticeably. Globally, the pace of growth has slowed.

In August 2025, Chinese automaker BYD significantly increased its sales of electrified vehicles in Spain. During the month, 1,827 new BYD cars were registered on the national market, allowing the company to capture a 12.2% share of the plug-in electric and hybrid segment.

Since the start of the year, Spanish buyers have purchased 14,181 BYD vehicles, representing 10.4% of the plug-in market. Compared to the same period last year, this figure has risen by 676%. This strong performance has established the brand among the leaders in sales of electrified vehicles in the country.

BYD also holds second place in fully electric car sales in Spain over the first eight months of 2025. During this period, 7,983 electric vehicles were sold, accounting for 18.2% of the total market share. Among the most popular models is the Dolphin Surf, which, after four months on the market, reached 451 registrations in August and ranked third for the month. In the annual ranking, this model placed tenth with 1,447 units sold.

Another successful BYD model—the Atto 3—became the eighth most popular electric vehicle in Spain since the beginning of the year. Its sales reached 1,553 units, more than double last year’s result.

Globally, the company has reported a slowdown in growth. In August, 373,626 vehicles were sold, just 0.1% more than a year earlier. This marks the second consecutive month of declining sales momentum: in July, growth was only 0.5%. Production figures also dropped — 353,090 vehicles were manufactured in August, down 3.8% compared to August 2024. Nevertheless, over the first eight months, BYD remains the world’s largest manufacturer of electrified vehicles, producing 2.8 million units, 21% more than in the same period last year.

The summer months are traditionally marked by decreased factory activity, which also influenced BYD’s results. Despite this, the company continues to strengthen its position in the Spanish market, showing significant sales growth and expanding the presence of its models.
