On Tuesday, a match took place in Shanghai between Novak Djokovic and Jaume Munar as part of the Masters 1000 series tennis tournament’s round of 16. The Serbian athlete, who recently turned 38 years and four months old, continues to impress fans, becoming the oldest player in the tournament’s history to reach this stage of the competition in China.
In the previous round, Djokovic had to put in considerable effort to defeat Yannick Hanfmann of Germany. The match lasted nearly three hours and was played in conditions of high humidity. Despite the fact that his opponent was ranked only 150th in the world and had entered the main draw through qualification, Djokovic managed to turn the match around and clinch victory with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Djokovic’s opponent was the Spaniard Jaume Munar, who is having one of the best seasons of his career. The 28-year-old from Mallorca reached the round of 16 at a tournament of this level on a hard court for the first time. In the third round, Munar confidently overcame Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka, winning in three sets: 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. Over the past year, the Spaniard has become much more aggressive and adapted to fast courts, significantly increasing his number of wins on this surface.
