Daniil Medvedev found himself at the center of attention once again after his match on the courts of Shanghai. The Russian tennis player, who recently made headlines for his emotional outburst at the US Open, lost his composure again during a match against young American Learner Tien. Tensions escalated after Medvedev squandered his lead in the second set, allowing his opponent to even the score.
During the match, Medvedev faced physical challenges: cramps, which had already troubled him in Beijing, resurfaced. Despite this, he kept fighting, though he did not hide his frustration with some of the umpire’s decisions. He was particularly dissatisfied with a warning from umpire Mohamed Lahyani about the serve time. At that moment, the Russian recalled how long he had to wait for Rafael Nadal to serve in previous matches and expressed confusion over the different approach from the officials.
Coach Thomas Johansson observed from the stands, choosing not to intervene in his protégé’s emotional exchange. After losing the second set, Medvedev did not hide his disappointment, but managed to pull himself together and secured victory in three sets. The final score was 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 in favor of the Russian.
This result strengthened Medvedev’s ranking and kept his chances alive for participation in the ATP Finals in Turin. After his success in Beijing and Shanghai, he has accumulated 2,110 points, and a tournament win in China could raise this to 2,910. The tournament in Turin will take place from November 9 to 16, and the competition for the remaining six spots promises to be intense.
Attention to Medvedev’s behavior on court remains high. His emotional outbursts and sharp remarks continue to attract interest from fans and experts alike. This time, the mention of Nadal became a new topic of discussion, adding intrigue to the rivalry among the top tennis players of today.
