In Barcelona, police have detained an 18-year-old man suspected of stabbing a minor in the metro. The incident occurred on Monday evening at the Virrei Amat station on line L5, when an argument over football paraphernalia broke out between two passengers.
According to police, the conflict began after one of the individuals was wearing a bracelet with the emblem of a foreign football club. This provoked an aggressive reaction from the other young man, leading to a scuffle and the subsequent use of a knife.
The injured teenager suffered wounds to his arm, which doctors described as minor. After receiving first aid at the scene, he was taken to the nearest Primary Healthcare Center for further examination.
The Regional Transport Division of the city police has launched an investigation into the incident. Police officers, in cooperation with representatives of the transport company TMB, quickly identified the alleged attacker. By Wednesday morning, the suspect had been detained.
It is known that the detainee had previously come to the attention of law enforcement and has two recorded offenses. Police are currently establishing all the circumstances of the incident and investigating a possible link between the football insignia and the motives for the attack.
The incident has raised concerns among metro passengers and once again brought up the issue of safety on Barcelona’s public transport. Authorities emphasize that such incidents remain rare but urge vigilance and mutual respect, especially amid sports rivalries.
Police continue efforts to prevent similar conflicts and are increasing patrols in crowded areas, including metro stations.
