An incident in one of Madrid’s prestigious residential complexes has caught the attention of not only football fans, but also the general public. Five exclusive watches were stolen from the home of former Spanish national team goalkeeper Iker Casillas, with their value estimated at tens of thousands of euros.
The owner did not immediately notice the theft. In place of the original models, skillfully crafted replicas had been left, allowing the perpetrators to buy time and escape unnoticed. Only after some time did Casillas discover the swap and contact law enforcement.
The investigation revealed that two people were involved in the crime: a housekeeper and a security guard of the residential complex. According to investigators, it was the guard who orchestrated the plan and used his access to the premises to organize the theft. His accomplice, who worked in the house, helped carry it out.
The method used in the crime drew particular attention. Instead of simply taking the valuables, the suspects replaced them with fakes, which helped them avoid immediate detection. This approach indicated careful planning and familiarity with the owner’s habits.
Police have already detained both suspects. During searches, only two of the five stolen watches were recovered. The search for the remaining models continues, and investigators are working to find out whether they have been resold or taken out of the country.
Among the stolen items were renowned brands such as Audemars Piguet, Rolex, Omega, and IWC. Each model holds significant collectible and monetary value. Experts note that such thefts are becoming increasingly common among celebrities, especially in Spain’s major cities.
The incident with Casillas has once again raised questions about security in upscale residential complexes and trust in staff. Many residents in these areas are now re-evaluating their security measures and tightening access control to their homes.
Iker Casillas himself has not yet made any official statements regarding the incident. Those close to him say he is shocked not only by the loss of valuable items but also by the betrayal from those he trusted.
In the coming days, the detainees will appear in court. Police continue to work on recovering the remaining watches and clarifying all the circumstances of the case.
