Joan Laporta, president of the football club Barcelona, was one of the main guests at the premiere of the TV show “Bestial” on channel 3Cat. He was joined in the studio by Santi Millán, Judit Mascó, and Soraya Arnelas, with Bibiana Balbé as the host.
During the conversation, Laporta noted that the head of such a major club is obliged to act responsibly and adhere to honesty. According to him, it is crucial for Barcelona that the president’s words always match his actions. He emphasized that the interests of the club and its fans should come before personal ambitions.
The Barcelona chief also highlighted the club’s uniqueness, which, in his view, stands out for its openness and respect for different perspectives. He recalled that the team symbolizes Catalonia but has long since reached an international level.
Speaking about his own weaknesses, Laporta admitted that he sometimes lets his emotions take over. He compared himself to a bottle of cava that flares up quickly but cools down just as fast, without holding grudges.
Regarding management decisions, Laporta said he tries to rely on the opinions of experienced colleagues and family members. He values the advice of his chief of staff, board members, and his children, which helps him make well-considered decisions.
In a humorous tone, the Barcelona president shared that, in his imagination, in heaven the club regularly scores goals against Real Madrid, and Johan Cruyff holds a special place for him.
Evaluating head coach Hansi Flick’s performance, Laporta compared him to the protagonist of the film ‘Gladiator’, noting the coach’s blend of high demands and sensitivity.
Special attention in the conversation was given to the relationship with Lionel Messi. Laporta said that for many years they enjoyed mutual understanding, but after an unsuccessful attempt to extend his contract, the situation became complicated. Later, he noted, contact was restored and he now hopes that the club will arrange a fitting tribute for the Argentine footballer.
Laporta recalled that Messi supported him during the presidential elections. In the summer of 2021, the club made efforts to keep the forward, but financial circumstances prevented this, and Messi continued his career at the Parisian club.
