The summer of 2025 was marked by a new trend in the jewelry preferences of the Spanish royal family. Queen Letizia and Princess Leonor have increasingly been choosing jewelry pieces from the Spanish brand Suma Cruz, founded by designer Susana Cruz, for their public appearances. This choice has brought significant attention to the brand, highlighting its unique style and craftsmanship.
Princess Leonor, whose individual style is becoming increasingly pronounced, has shown a particular fondness for the brand’s pieces. In July, during events at the Premios Princesa de Girona in Sant Martí Vell, she appeared wearing several rings from Suma Cruz. Later, in Mallorca, the heir to the throne completed her look with a stingray-shaped bracelet and ‘Ocaso’ (Sunset) earrings from the ‘Índico’ (Indigo) collection during a reception at the Marivent Palace.
However, it was Queen Letizia who was the first in the royal family to notice the brand. Her introduction to Suma Cruz dates back to 2017, when an exclusive raffia bag decorated with flowers and beetles was made for her for a state visit to the United Kingdom. Later, the Queen began opting for the brand’s jewelry as well. For instance, at the 2023 Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest, she appeared wearing the brand’s iconic ‘Helechos’ (Ferns) earrings.
In 2025, at the same film festival, Queen Letizia once again chose Suma Cruz, wearing a gold-plated ‘Acacia’ (Acacia) bracelet and matching earrings from the ‘Índico’ collection. Thus, Princess Leonor’s choice is no coincidence—she followed her mother’s example, who has long appreciated Susana Cruz’s work.
Increased attention from the royal family has brought the brand unprecedented recognition both in Spain and abroad. According to brand founder Susana Cruz, this has introduced a wide audience to the brand’s story and values, which are rooted in handmade craftsmanship and inspiration from nature. The designer notes that her creations combine strength and grace, elegance and individuality, allowing them to seamlessly complement various styles.
Susana Cruz admits that it brings her great joy to see her jewelry worn by clients, and she dreams of expanding her influence. Her plans include seeing her pieces on other members of Europe’s royal families, such as Carolina and Charlotte of Monaco. This dream has partly come true: recently, Princess Amalia of the Netherlands was seen wearing the “Saturno” choker from Suma Cruz. The designer also hopes her jewelry will become family heirlooms to be passed down from grandmothers to mothers and daughters.
