In 2026, the German automotive giant Volkswagen plans to begin production of four new urban electric vehicles at its facilities in Spain. The new models will be produced at the Seat plant in Martorell (Barcelona) and the Volkswagen site in Landaben (Navarra). This was announced during the IAA Mobility automotive exhibition held in Munich.
The ‘Electric Urban Car’ lineup will feature several new models. Among them are the ID. Polo and the ID. Cross concept—a crossover which will become the electric version of the popular T-Cross and will be assembled in Navarra. Additionally, the ID. Polo GTI is expected to debut as Volkswagen’s first fully electric vehicle equipped with the legendary GTI sports badge, designed for everyday use.
Cupra, in turn, will begin assembly of the Raval model at the Martorell plant in the first half of the year. This car stands out for its sporty character and unconventional design, distinguishing it from other models within the brand.
The lineup will also be expanded by the Skoda Epiq—a compact crossover intended for daily use. This will be the first car from the Czech brand to be produced in Spain, specifically at the Landaben plant. Production is expected to start after the summer period.
All new electric vehicles will be built on the updated MEB+ platform, which provides a driving range of up to 450 kilometers. The starting price for these models will be around 25,000 euros.
With the launch of this series, Volkswagen aims to capture up to 20% of the compact electric car market in Europe in the medium term. The company notes that the new models are designed to make electric vehicles more affordable and appealing to a broad audience.
