French Startup Exotec Redefines Logistics with Focus on Robots and AI

Discover how an innovative project with Renault is reshaping warehouse operations — exclusive insights into the technology and transformation, expert opinions on the dawning era, and what it means for the industry

Exotec has gone beyond conventional automation, introducing unique solutions for warehouses where robots and artificial intelligence operate side by side. Why this move caused a stir across Europe and how it will impact major companies—find out in our report.

In 2026, the European logistics market stands on the brink of dramatic transformation: the French company Exotec, previously known solely as a manufacturer of autonomous robots, has made a sharp strategic shift. The focus is no longer just on deploying individual machines, but on a comprehensive overhaul of warehouse complexes, where automation and flexibility are becoming the main competitive advantages. The spotlight is not only on accelerating order processing, but also on the ability to quickly adapt to changing market demands.

Exotec’s impressive leap forward is tied to the opening of its new headquarters Imaginarium in Lille. The company’s management has announced plans to become not merely an equipment supplier, but a full-fledged integrator of warehouse solutions. This means that Exotec now takes on the design, equipping, and maintenance of warehouses, implementing its proprietary developments in robotics, artificial intelligence, and computer vision. This approach allows clients to speed up goods handling while reducing reliance on human labor—a crucial advantage amid rising labor costs across Europe.

Next-generation technologies

At the heart of Exotec’s innovations is the Skypod robot, capable of moving throughout the warehouse in three dimensions, including vertical motion. This opens up new horizons for the storage and transport of goods, enabling the most efficient use of space. In addition, the company offers a suite of solutions: automated shelving, pallet handling systems, robotic packing and sorting stations, as well as software to manage all these processes.

Particular attention is paid to the integration of artificial intelligence and computer vision systems. Cameras act as the eyes of the warehouse, while AI algorithms serve as its brain, analyzing the flow of goods and optimizing movement routes. This technological synergy not only accelerates operations but also minimizes errors, which is critical for major retailers and manufacturers.

The human factor and automation

Despite the drive toward full automation, Exotec does not rule out human involvement in key operations. In some cases—especially when dealing with products that require an individual approach—people remain an irreplaceable link. The company focuses on hybrid solutions where robots and employees work in tandem, ensuring high productivity even with non-standard tasks.

A key element of Exotec’s strategy is modularity: warehouses are designed for easy scaling and upgrades as the business grows. This is especially valuable for companies operating in fast-changing industries, where logistics requirements can shift in a matter of months.

Clients and project scale

Exotec counts among its clients major players in fashion, retail, e-commerce, and the food industry. One standout project was for Renault Group: the French automotive giant entrusted Exotec with a complete overhaul of its warehouse in Germany. The site was equipped with SkyPass conveyor systems, 85 robots, and automated lines capable of processing up to 107,000 orders per day. This scale enabled Renault to centralize component deliveries and boost efficiency by 50%.

Renault management notes that the project was highly complex: parts needed to reach service centers by the following day, with orders coming in until late in the evening. Automation made it possible to minimize order preparation time and increase reliability of deliveries.

Global ambitions

The new Exotec headquarters in Lille was not chosen by chance: the city sits at the crossroads of Europe’s main logistics routes, close to the ports of Rotterdam and Dunkirk, as well as the borders of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. This allows the company to respond quickly to client requests and drive international projects. In 2024, Exotec reached one billion euros in cumulative sales and entered markets in Asia, including South Korea.

Imaginarium employs more than 200 engineers, allocating 10% of its revenue annually to research and development. The company actively protects its innovations, holding over 400 patents. Its staff includes professionals from 62 countries, underscoring the business’s international scope and focus on the global market.

Exotec is not just a robot manufacturer but a technology leader shaping the future of logistics. The company is committed to continuous development, implementing new solutions, and expanding its presence in key industries. In the coming years, even more ambitious projects are expected, with the potential to redefine how modern warehouses operate.

Exotec, a French technology company founded in the mid-2010s, quickly earned a reputation as one of the most innovative players in the warehouse automation market. Its flagship product, the Skypod robot, has become a symbol of a new era in logistics, while partnerships with giants like Renault have brought the brand onto the international stage. The company is known for its focus on flexibility, modularity, and the integration of artificial intelligence, allowing it to remain at the forefront of the industry and set trends in warehouse process automation.
