Volvo EX30 surprises with a new electric motor and black edition as prices drop to €30,000

Latest upgrades for the Volvo EX30 in Spain mean more options and even better deals for buyers

The Volvo EX30 features an updated electric motor, expanded trims, and increased affordability thanks to new government incentives. Its black edition and additional features make it one of the year’s most intriguing electric cars

In 2026, Spain’s electric vehicle market is undergoing significant changes: the Volvo EX30, already the brand’s third most popular model, is reaching a new milestone. Thanks to recent upgrades, this compact crossover has become even more appealing for those seeking modern and economical transportation. The new version, featuring a simplified electric motor and a wider range of trim levels, now offers substantial savings—especially considering the latest government subsidies.

The launch of the Auto+ program has truly energized manufacturers: buyers can now receive up to €4,500 in support when purchasing an electric vehicle. Volvo has responded by offering the EX30 with a new 150-horsepower motor and a 51 kWh battery, delivering a range of up to 339 kilometers. For those who favor longer journeys, there’s a version with a 69 kWh battery and an extended range of up to 476 kilometers. This approach allows customers to choose the best option for their needs and budgets.

Technology and comfort

A key innovation is the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature, which enables the car’s battery to power external devices. This solution will be especially valued by those who travel often or work outside the home. However, it’s not yet clear whether this option will be available in Spain right away, though the manufacturer promises to expand its rollout. In addition, the updated EX30 now boasts a redesigned control system and a customizable dashboard, making interaction with the car more convenient and intuitive. All these improvements will be delivered to owners via over-the-air updates as early as this summer, not only for new vehicles but also for those already on the road.

The interior now comes in two options: light Harvest trim with upholstery made from recycled materials, and dark Black trim with contrasting stitching and flax fiber elements. For those who prefer bold choices, there’s a special Black Edition—featuring black wheels, roof, and mirrors, plus three body color options: Onyx Black, Vapour Grey, and Crystal White. This attention to detail emphasizes the model’s premium nature and helps it stand out among competitors.

Availability and competition

Volvo has not yet disclosed the exact prices for the updated EX30, but according to Autobild, the base version with the new engine may start at around €30,000. This makes the model one of the most affordable among premium electric crossovers, especially considering available subsidies. For comparison, the more powerful 272-horsepower version starts at €35,800. This move is clearly aimed at gaining an advantage over competitors, who are also actively lowering prices and expanding their range.

It’s worth noting that the competition for buyers in the electric vehicle market is becoming increasingly intense. For example, Chinese manufacturers are already offering their models at very attractive prices, as demonstrated by the record success of electric vehicles in China and their expansion into Europe. In this environment, European brands are forced not only to upgrade their technology but also to revise their pricing strategies to maintain their positions.

Details for enthusiasts

Another important point is that all new features and improvements are available not only to new buyers, but also to owners of already purchased EX30s. It is rare for a manufacturer to take such care of customer loyalty by offering timely updates through over-the-air technology. This approach could set a new standard for the industry, where service and support are becoming just as important as technical specifications.

The Volvo EX30 is more than just another electric vehicle; it’s an example of how a traditional brand can quickly adapt to new market demands. The model combines advanced technology, sustainable materials, and thoughtful design, making it attractive to a broad audience. With a flexible pricing policy and support from the state, the EX30 is able to compete not only with European but also with Asian manufacturers who are actively gaining ground in the electric car market.

Volvo is a Swedish company renowned for its commitment to safety and innovation in automotive manufacturing. In recent years, the brand has focused on electrifying its lineup, which has helped strengthen its position in Europe and enter new markets. The EX30 has become the symbol of this strategy: compact, technologically advanced, and affordable, it embodies current trends in urban mobility and meets the demands of buyers who value comfort, sustainability, and reliability.
