
One of the most prominent figures in Spanish tennis, Paula Badosa, has announced a forced break from her professional career. The athlete stated that she will not participate in tournaments until 2026. The decision comes as a result of numerous injuries that prevent her from competing at her previous level.
This season, Badosa once again faced health issues. After a three-month absence from competitions, she attempted to return to the court, representing the national team in the Billie Jean King Cup. However, a new injury to her left leg forced her to withdraw from further matches, including the tournament in Beijing.
During her professional career, Paula has withdrawn from matches 37 times due to injuries. Nevertheless, she remains one of the most recognizable athletes in Spain. In April 2022, Badosa reached second place in the WTA world ranking, and she currently holds the 19th spot.
In her address to fans, the tennis player expressed gratitude for their support, noting that it is their belief in her that helps her overcome difficulties. She emphasized that she does not intend to give up and is determined to find ways to return to professional sports.
Badosa’s career pause has become a significant event for Spanish tennis. Her absence on the court will certainly impact the national team’s results and interest in women’s tournaments in the country. Nevertheless, the athlete is confident that she will recover and return to the court in 2026.
