On the evening of September 14, near the northern breakwater in Melilla, Civil Guard officers spotted a suspicious motorboat. At first glance, it appeared that only the operator was on board, but his maneuvers raised concerns for the patrol.
When the patrol boat approached and ordered him to stop, the captain ignored the request and tried to flee, then even rammed the service vessel. The collision caused visible damage to the boat, but the pursuit continued.
After the boat was finally stopped, a thorough inspection began. In a small compartment below deck, six adults were discovered, believed to be from Maghreb countries. None of them had identification documents. Despite the stressful circumstances, no medical assistance was needed—everyone was in satisfactory condition.
The detainees were taken to the appropriate authorities for further procedures required by law. The vessel itself, registered in Melilla, was impounded for inspection. The captain is now in custody, facing charges of organizing illegal border crossing and violating foreign nationals’ rights.
