In the first ten months of 2025, the port of Cádiz (Puerto de Cádiz) recorded impressive growth in cargo turnover. The total volume handled reached 4.65 million tons, up 15.4% compared to the same period last year. This increase was mainly driven by a significant rise in liquid cargo shipments, which continue to gain momentum.
The liquid cargo segment grew by more than 80% during the reporting period, exceeding 960,000 tons. This was the sharpest increase among all categories. Dry bulk also showed positive dynamics, rising by 7.5% to reach 1.53 million tons. The general cargo segment grew by 3.5%, allowing it to reach 2.03 million tons.
Overall, as of October, the port had handled more than 4.53 million tons of various cargoes, confirming a steady growth trend. An additional boost came from ship supplies, which rose by almost 10% to over 108,000 tons. The fishing industry was also active: over 10,000 tons of fresh fish were processed, with market value up by nearly 9%.
Transport flows and passenger traffic
Freight transport by ferry between Cadiz and the Canary Islands (Islas Canarias) continues to grow. Over ten months, the volume of cargo transported on this route reached 774,000 tons, up 5% from the previous year. Container shipments (lolo) also maintained a positive trend, though growth was modest—just over 0.3%. However, the number of containers and TEU slightly decreased due to changes in the structure of freight flows.
Passenger transport between Cadiz and the Canary Islands remains strong. During the reporting period, more than 39,000 people used the ferry service, 16% more than last year. This route continues to attract a growing number of travelers, despite wider market fluctuations.
Cruise sector: more arrivals, but fewer passengers
Cruise ships called at the port of Cadiz 275 times—a 6.6% increase compared to the same period in 2024. However, overall passenger numbers fell by nearly 7%. The main reason is a decrease in the average vessel size, which has led to lower total passenger traffic. Nevertheless, the port retains its status as one of the key cruise hubs in the region.
In summary, the port of Cadiz ends the first ten months of 2025 showing confident growth across most segments. The most notable gains are in liquid cargo and passenger transport to the Canaries. Meanwhile, the cruise sector shows mixed results, reflecting changes in the fleet and shifting tourist preferences.
