The Valencian Parliament (Les Corts) is undergoing another wave of reshuffles: Carlos Mazón, who recently stepped down as head of the regional government, has now officially become the Partido Popular (PP) representative on the Rules Committee. This appointment not only cements his political presence in regional affairs, but also brings an additional annual salary of €8,879.78, which equates to a monthly supplement of €634.27 and two extra payments of €1,268.54 each.
Mazón’s new status was formalized after Les Corts registered an official document listing changes to the composition of committees and the standing parliamentary commission. The document, signed by the new PP spokesperson Nando Pastor, details all personnel changes following Mazón’s departure as president of the Generalitat and the appointment of Juanfran Pérez Llorca to the position.
Committee changes
As a result of the reshuffle on the Rules Committee, the Partido Popular replaced Eduardo Dolón with Carlos Mazón, who will now represent the party’s interests. There were also changes to the Internal Administration Committee: Nando Pastor, the new PP spokesperson, has taken over the role previously held by Juanfran Pérez Llorca.
The standing parliamentary commission also saw changes. Pérez Llorca stepped down as a full member, ceding his place to Pastor, while Pérez Llorca himself took up the role of deputy, replacing José Juan Zaplana.
The context of reshuffles
All these personnel decisions were made literally a day before the official inauguration of the new President of the Generalitat. Despite stepping down from the highest office in the autonomous community, Mazón retained his parliamentary mandate and remained in the regional parliament. His new appointment to the Rules Committee highlights that he continues to play a significant role in the political life of the Valencian Community.
The Rules Committee is one of the standing, but not legislative, committees of Les Corts. It deals with matters of the parliament’s internal structure and works in tandem with committees on members’ status, citizens’ petitions, and internal administration.
Financial details
The position of representative on the Rules Committee includes a separate financial supplement to the basic parliamentary salary. Annually, this amounts to nearly 9,000 euros, making the role not only prestigious but also financially attractive. These payments are provided for all members who take on additional responsibilities in parliamentary committees.
The Valencian parliament regularly updates the composition of its committees depending on political changes and party rotations. The latest reshuffles are linked to Mazón’s departure from the head of government and the appointment of Pérez Llorca to his post, triggering a series of changes in key parliamentary bodies.
Mazón’s role
Carlos Mazón, despite his new position, remains one of the most prominent figures in regional politics. His experience and influence allow him to maintain significant standing even after stepping down as president of the Generalitat. His new role on the rules committee enables him to continue influencing parliamentary processes and stay at the center of political events in the Valencian Community.
Overall, the reshuffling in Les Corts reflects the dynamic nature of regional political life and shows how quickly the leadership structure can change in response to shifts at the highest levels of power.
