On Friday, most of Spain will come under the influence of Cyclone Claudia, which will linger in the northwest of the country. Residents in many regions will notice changes from the morning: the sky will be overcast, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and even hail expected throughout the day. The most intense precipitation is forecast for western Andalucía, Galicia, the Pyrenees, and the Alborán Sea area.
In the central and northern regions, as well as mountainous areas of Mallorca and along the Atlantic coast, strong southerly winds are expected. In some places, gusts may reach storm force, increasing the risk of falling trees and local infrastructure damage. As a result, weather alerts have been issued in Andalucía, Aragón, Castilla y León, Cataluña, Extremadura, Galicia, and Navarra. Ceuta is also on high alert.
Meanwhile, in the east of the country and in the coastal areas of Cantabria and Ebro, the chance of rain is minimal, and skies will begin to clear by evening. In the Balearic Islands, only brief showers are possible, unlikely to impact everyday life.
The Canary Islands, which recently endured heavy rain, can expect a calmer day. Variable cloud cover is forecast, with only a slight chance of brief rain showers in the more mountainous areas.
Cold snap and frost: what residents of different regions should expect
With the arrival of the cyclone, a colder air mass will move into the country, leading to a significant drop in temperatures. The cooling will be especially noticeable in the Pyrenees, eastern Andalusia, and Castilla-La Mancha, where daytime highs will fall by several degrees. At the same time, the Ebro Valley and the eastern coast may see a slight, short-lived increase in temperatures.
Nighttime temperatures will also decrease, with a cool night expected in the Balearic Islands. Light frost is possible in mountainous areas of the Pyrenees, which could impact agriculture and tourist routes.
Overall, Friday will be marked by unstable weather: sudden changes in wind, heavy showers, and colder conditions will affect a large part of the country. Residents are advised to pay attention to weather warnings and, if possible, avoid long journeys in the most affected regions.
