Major changes have taken place in the leadership of the regional branch of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) in Extremadura. Following recent elections, which ended in defeat for the Socialists, and the subsequent resignation of Miguel Ángel Gallardo, the party faced the urgent need to restructure its internal organization. José Luis Quintana Álvarez, who previously served as the government’s regional delegate, has now taken over as interim leader.
The interim commission now headed by Quintana has been given the authority to coordinate the party’s activities until an extraordinary congress is held. It is at this congress that a new regional executive team will be elected. The commission consists of eight members, each with experience in party structures and government bodies.
Commission members include María José Pulido Pérez, Gonzalo Romero Barba, Carmen Yáñez Quirós, Pablo Iglesias Ordóñez, Ana María Fernández Rodríguez, José María Ramírez Morán, and Irene Pozas García. They will work under Quintana’s leadership to ensure stability and transparency during the transition period.
The commission faces the task of not only maintaining organizational work but also laying the groundwork for future democratic procedures. In the coming months, this team will be responsible for organizing internal elections and ensuring their transparency. The interim leadership must also guarantee that all processes comply with the party’s statutes and meet the expectations of its members.
Internal party life in Extremadura is currently in a state of anticipation. Many PSOE activists and supporters are closely watching the commission’s actions, hoping for renewal and for the restoration of voters’ trust. The interim team has already begun its work to prevent an organizational vacuum and preserve party unity in the region.
