Madrid to Get an Extra Day Off in November Due to Holiday Rescheduling

Madrid declares November 10 a public holiday: What it means for locals and visitors

November 10, 2025, will be an official holiday in Madrid. The city’s patron saint celebration moves to Monday. Find out how the capital’s daily life will change on this date.

In 2025, Madrid residents will enjoy an extra day off: Monday, November 10, will be an official holiday. The city authorities made this decision because the traditional celebration in honor of the capital’s patron saint, the Virgen de la Almudena, falls on a Sunday. To ensure Madrilenians don’t miss out on their well-deserved day of rest, the holiday has been moved to the following Monday.

For most locals, this means not only a chance to spend time with family or friends, but also the opportunity to take part in the many events traditionally held during these days. Students in city schools and employees of most companies outside essential services will be able to enjoy a short break at the start of the week. However, for residents of other cities and municipalities within the autonomous community, this day will remain a regular workday.

During these days, the heart of Madrid is filled with a special atmosphere. Iconic events dedicated to the Virgen de la Almudena begin in advance: the cathedral holds solemn masses, and on the eve of the holiday, a traditional three-day prayer service is organized. The highlight is a grand procession, when the patron saint’s statue is paraded through the city’s main streets, watched by thousands of believers and onlookers. After mass on Plaza de la Almudena, the festive procession heads to Plaza Mayor, where celebrations continue.

A key part of the festivities is the city’s gastronomic tradition: during these days, pastry shops across Madrid offer the famous “Corona de la Almudena”—the sweet symbol of the celebration that’s especially popular among locals and visitors alike.

In addition to religious and family events, Madrid will host a major cultural program, Patronas 2025. From November 6 to 9, various concert venues around the capital will feature all-female musical groups and solo performers. A total of 22 concerts are planned, with up to six performances scheduled each day. Organizers promise a packed lineup and surprising musical discoveries for everyone spending these days in the city.

On November 10, Madrid will become a vibrant hub for anyone who appreciates tradition, music, and the spirit of a true citywide celebration. For many, it’s the perfect opportunity to discover new sides of life in the Spanish capital and to feel part of a large urban community.
