On October 12, Madrid will once again become a focal point for locals and visitors alike as the city hosts the annual parade celebrating Spain’s National Day. As tradition dictates, thousands of people will gather along the main streets to watch the colorful procession featuring the military, vehicles, and aircraft. This year, the parade route remains unchanged: the columns will start at Plaza de Carlos V (Atocha), proceed along Paseo del Prado, pass through Plaza de Cibeles, and finish at Plaza de Colón.
The official program will begin at 11:00, when King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia arrive at the VIP stand near the Neptune Fountain. After greetings and a military salute, spectators will witness a spectacular parachute jump, the hoisting of the national flag, and a minute of silence in honor of those who died for Spain. This will be followed by a flyover by the “Patrulla Águila” team, coloring the sky above the city in red and yellow.
Nearly four thousand servicemen and women—over five hundred of whom are women—will take part in the parade. They will be joined by representatives of the police, the gendarmerie, and other state agencies. Hundreds of vehicles will pass through the streets: armored cars, motorcycles, as well as cavalry units and even service dogs. Dozens of planes and helicopters will fly overhead, while on the ground, spectators will have a close look at military uniforms and weaponry.
The festive program features the most recognizable moments: a parachute jump, flag-raising ceremony, flyover, and a ceremonial march. The origins of this event date back to the early 20th century, while its modern format is enshrined in law, highlighting the importance of national unity and cultural heritage.
For those who cannot attend in person on the streets of Madrid, a live broadcast will be available on national television channels and online. Starting at 10:50 a.m., viewers can follow the event on TV screens or through the official YouTube channel of the Ministry of Defense. On this day, the capital will once again be filled with an atmosphere of pride, patriotism, and vivid impressions, bringing together people of all ages.
