During the night from Wednesday to Thursday, a 3.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Zaragoza province. The epicenter was located just one kilometer from the small town of Aladrén, with the seismic focus at a depth of several kilometers. Although the tremor was rather weak, it briefly alarmed residents of nearby villages.
The vibrations were mainly felt in Vistabella, Paniza, and Cerveruela. In these towns, some people woke up to a light shaking, but there were no serious consequences. In Calatayud, Cuarte de Huerva, and La Almunia de Doña Godina, the tremors were barely noticeable, and most residents were unaware of the event.
Seismologists note that such events are not uncommon for the region, though seismic activity has been minimal in recent months. Minor tremors were already recorded in this part of Zaragoza during the past week, but the latest quake was the strongest in the last six months. The previous incident, registered on November 25, had a magnitude of 2.1 and went almost unnoticed.
A special survey was launched to gather information on the effects and residents’ experiences. Locals are invited to share what they were doing at the moment of the quake, how they reacted, and whether they observed any objects moving in their homes. Such data help specialists better assess the strength and distribution of seismic waves and timely inform the population about possible risks.
The collected information, together with seismograph readings, enables authorities to quickly analyze the situation and, if necessary, issue warnings about potential threats. This time, fortunately, no damage or casualties were reported. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation and urge residents to remain calm.
Overall, despite the overnight commotion, life in the region quickly returned to normal. Experts remind that such minor earthquakes do not pose a serious danger, but it is important to stay alert and report any unusual phenomena when necessary.
Recall that a noticeable earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 was also recently recorded in the province of Granada. At that time, residents of several towns felt the tremors, but there was no damage or injuries. Read more about this event in our previous article.
