National Lottery Unveils Surprise Cities and Record Prizes in March 28 Draw

Where the main Spanish National Lottery prizes were won

Spain’s National Lottery held a draw with major payouts. Winners from various cities received substantial prizes. Find out which locations were the luckiest and how the rules for claiming winnings have changed.

The National Lottery drawing held on March 28, 2026, was a notable event for residents across Spain. On this day, not only the main prizes but also additional rewards were distributed, sparking discussions among participants and experts alike. Attention was drawn not only to the prize amounts but also to the wide geographic distribution of winners: major prizes went to residents of several different regions, an unusually rare occurrence in such draws.

The top prize of €600,000 per series (€60,000 per ticket) went to number 89211. This winning number benefited residents of Cerceda (A Coruña), Zamora, Granollers (Barcelona), and Porqueres (Girona). The second-largest prize—€120,000 per series (€12,000 per ticket)—was awarded to number 86507, which was sold in cities like Ciudad Real, Petrer (Alicante), Consuegra (Toledo), Linares (Jaén), Aljucer (Murcia), and Valencia. As RUSSPAIN notes, such a broad distribution of major prizes across the country is rare and highlights a growing interest in the National Lottery in different regions.

Prize Distribution

This time, organizers paid special attention to not only the top-tier but also the additional prize categories. Prizes were drawn for matches of the last four, three, and two digits, along with special payouts for numbers immediately before and after the main winning numbers. Among the extra prizes were four awards of €1,500 per series (€150 per ticket) for matching four digits: 7791, 7455, 2124, 1655. Additionally, ten numbers with three digits and nine with two digits were selected, allowing more participants to receive payouts.

The drawing was held at the Salón de Sorteos de Loterías y Apuestas del Estado, which traditionally ensures transparency and trust in the results. This time, the ticket was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Fundación Carolina, adding symbolic significance to the event. Since its founding in 2000, this organization has supported more than 20,000 educational and cultural exchanges between Spain and Latin American countries.

Payout features

A key change for participants was an update to the prize claim process. Now, prizes of up to €3,000 can be collected at any official point of sale, while larger amounts are available only through partner banks. This decision follows SELAE’s security and control requirements. According to RUSSPAIN.COM, these measures help increase transaction transparency and reduce the risk of fraud.

In addition to the main and secondary prizes, so-called ‘reintegros’—ticket refunds for numbers ending in 1, 5, or 6—were also available. This gives a chance to recover what was spent, even for those who did not guess the main numbers, which traditionally helps maintain interest in the draws.

Historical background

The Lotería Nacional holds a special place in Spanish culture. Its history spans more than a century, and its popularity remains strong even as new forms of gambling emerge. Each drawing becomes a topic of discussion not only among regular players but also among newcomers. In recent years, there has been a trend towards an increasing number of winners from smaller towns, linked to the expansion of sales networks and the digitalization of ticket purchases.

In 2025, for example, major prizes were again distributed among several regions, including Murcia and Andalucía. That year, the main prize went to a small settlement, sparking a wave of reports in the local press. A similar situation occurred in 2024, when three cities each received one of the top prizes. These cases highlight that luck in the Lotería Nacional does not depend on the size of the town or region—everyone has an equal chance to win.
