Old Dog from France Urgently Seeks Home After a Life in a Warehouse

Abandoned by its owner, this animal’s fate raises alarm among volunteers and leaves many questions

An elderly dog spent his whole life in a warehouse. Now he needs a new home. Volunteers are searching for a family so he doesn’t end up on the street.

The story of an elderly dog who spent his entire life in a warehouse in France resonates with many Spaniards. In a country where animal welfare is becoming an increasingly important issue, cases like this one remind us of the need for responsible pet ownership. Now, the fate of this German Shepherd depends on whether he can find a new home, as his previous owner no longer wishes to care for him.

A dog named Junckie spent 12 years guarding a warehouse in the Somme region in northern France. Throughout this time, he was a loyal watchman, but now he is no longer wanted. The animal protection organization Chipnoum, based in the commune of Hamelet, is urgently seeking a family for him to ensure a peaceful old age. Volunteers note that the dog has a calm character, gets along well with other dogs, but has never encountered cats or children.

An unexpected twist

The situation is complicated by the fact that there is almost no time left to find a new owner. The warehouse owner has given up the animal, and now Junckie risks being left with nowhere to go. Volunteers emphasize: the issue is pressing, as this is an elderly animal who will have difficulty adapting to change. For many Spanish families considering adopting a pet, this is a chance to offer a peaceful old age to someone who has spent his life serving people.

The Chipnoum organization is dedicated to rescuing and rehoming pets in difficult situations. They share information about the animals in their care on social media and specialized platforms to speed up the search for new families. For Junckie, volunteers are calling on anyone ready to take responsibility for an elderly dog to come forward.

Volunteers and support

Chipnoum relies on donations collected through the Teaming platform. Every month, project participants contribute one euro to help cover the costs of treating and caring for the animals. Special attention is given to sterilization and medical help, as most of the pets arrive from unfavorable conditions. For Junckie, this is a chance to receive the care he was denied for many years.

Volunteers note that such stories are not uncommon. In recent years, France and Spain have seen a rise in cases where elderly animals are left behind once they are no longer considered useful. This trend is raising concerns among animal rights advocates and sparking public discussions about pet welfare.

Similar cases

In Spain, recent years have seen growing discussions about the fate of elderly dogs abandoned after years of loyal service. In 2025, a Labrador was found in Valencia who had spent its entire life on a construction site, and in Madrid, volunteers rescued a shepherd dog left behind after a warehouse closed. These stories have drawn attention to the issue and sparked new animal protection initiatives. More and more Spaniards are considering giving a chance at a dignified old age to those who have stood by humans for many years.
