A story worthy of a detective novel unfolded in one of the small towns in the province of Ourense. A 35-year-old man had spent years trying to prove his parentage and gain access to the estate left by a deceased businessman. Everything changed when private detectives and genetics experts got involved.
The man’s mother lived in Galicia, while his alleged father spent most of his time in Mexico, where he ran a business. Their meetings occurred only during his visits home. Their relationship developed gradually, but after news of the pregnancy, all contact ceased. The woman faced hostility from her lover’s family, who even threatened to take the child from her if paternity was confirmed. In the end, she decided to raise her son on her own.
Years later, the man decided to uncover the truth about his origins. He turned to lawyers and hired private investigators. The detectives spent a long time tracking his alleged paternal grandfather. At one point, they managed to collect a saliva sample that he left on the street. This unusual biological material was carefully gathered, packaged, and sent to a laboratory for DNA analysis.
The results of the forensic examination confirmed the biological relationship between the man and the entrepreneur’s family. When the court proceedings began, the judge offered the grandfather to undergo a second test, but he refused to appear. However, under current practice, refusal to take the test when other evidence is present allows the court to rule in favor of the claimant. As a result, the man was officially recognized as the son of the deceased businessman and gained the right to inherit. The grandfather was ordered to pay the court costs.
