In Seville, the private educational institution Irlandesas de Loreto has found itself at the center of public attention following the tragic death of a 14-year-old student. The girl passed away in October, and it soon emerged that she had been bullied by classmates. Her parents repeatedly appealed to the administration for intervention, but according to the family, the school failed to take the necessary measures.
In response to the incident, the administration announced the launch of a special program aimed at strengthening support for students facing difficult situations. In its statement, the school emphasized that educational institutions must be prepared to respond to any signs of vulnerability among teenagers. The administration intends to involve external experts in psychology and social work to analyze the situation and develop new support mechanisms.
Meanwhile, two bodies are investigating the school’s actions. The Andalusian Ministry of Education is reviewing why anti-bullying and suicide prevention protocols were not activated as required by local regulations. If violations are confirmed, the institution could lose its funding. At the same time, the juvenile prosecutor’s office is analyzing documents and records of meetings between parents and teachers to determine the administration’s level of responsibility.
The family of the deceased strongly disagrees with the school’s position as stated in the official documents. Relatives claim that the psychologist insisted on the immediate implementation of all necessary procedures and on separating the students involved in the conflict, but the administration did not follow these recommendations. Moreover, according to the girl’s uncle, the administration is trying to downplay the role of bullying in the tragedy.
Tensions around the school have not subsided in recent weeks. The walls of the building have been marked with accusations against teachers and classmates believed to be involved in the bullying. While the administration promptly removes such messages, new ones continue to appear. Meanwhile, the prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into threats made against the alleged offenders, as well as the distribution of their photos online.
Despite the school appointing two supervisors for the girl and separating the students involved in the conflict into different classes, formal anti-bullying procedures were never officially initiated. This is the administration’s third official statement since the tragedy. The first expressed condolences, the second appealed for respect for students’ privacy, and now the focus is on reviewing the entire system for supporting adolescents.
