At the start of the new week, Spain is expected to see a weakening of the abnormal heat. According to meteorologists, air temperatures will begin to drop almost across the entire country, especially in the northwestern regions. Nevertheless, high temperatures will persist in the southeastern areas, as well as in the Balearic and Canary Islands.
Cooler air from the Atlantic is moving into the northwestern part of the Iberian Peninsula, leading to increased cloud cover and growing atmospheric instability. These areas are expected to experience light rain, mainly in the mornings and evenings, along with fog. Elsewhere in the country, medium and high clouds will prevail, moving from west to east.
In the second half of the day, brief showers and thunderstorms are possible in the eastern regions and mountainous areas, sometimes intense—especially in the Pyrenees and the eastern part of the Iberian System. The Canary Islands will generally remain clear, though cloudy periods are possible in the north and mountain zones. In some parts of the country, dusty haze may develop.
Air temperatures will drop almost everywhere, most noticeably in the inland northwest and southern Catalonia. No significant changes are expected along the northwest coast, in the Pyrenees, and in the Canary Islands, while the southeastern regions and the Alboran Sea area could even see a slight temperature increase.
In the southern half of the Iberian Peninsula, in some lowlands of the northeast, and on the Balearic and Canary Islands, temperatures will once again exceed 35 degrees, while in the Guadalquivir Valley and some parts of the southeast, readings may reach up to 40 degrees.
Winds in the Canary Islands will be mainly northeast, with occasional strong gusts. On the mainland, light winds are expected, strengthening in the afternoon. Westerly and southwesterly winds will dominate the Atlantic area, while in Galicia, Cantabria, and the Ebro Valley, winds will be from the north and northwest. On the eastern Mediterranean coast, wind direction will shift from south to north.
Minimum temperatures will decrease in the northwestern third of the country and in Extremadura, remain unchanged in the Balearic Islands, and rise in other regions. In the southern half, in lowlands of the northeast, and on both archipelagos, nighttime temperatures will not fall below 20 degrees, while in the Mediterranean region, Guadalquivir Valley, and some areas of the Canary Islands, they may exceed 25 degrees.
Cloudy weather with sunny intervals is expected in Galicia, with some light rain possible in places, especially in eastern areas. In Asturias and Cantabria, cloud cover will predominate, with possible fog and brief showers, particularly in the afternoon. Rain and thunderstorms are also possible in the Basque Country and Navarre, mainly in mountainous areas.
In Andalusia, Murcia, and the Valencian Community, predominantly clear weather prevails, but local thunderstorms and gusty winds are possible in the mountains in the afternoon. In Catalonia and Aragon, showers and storms are likely later in the day, some of which may be strong, especially in the Pyrenees and the western part of the region.
In the central regions, including Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha, variable cloudiness is expected, with brief showers and thunderstorms possible in some areas, mainly in the mountains. Precipitation and lower temperatures are also expected in Castilla y León and La Rioja.
On the Balearic Islands, daytime temperatures will drop, while nights will remain unchanged. Winds will be light, mainly from the south, with gentle sea breezes. The Canary Islands will continue to experience heat, especially in the southern and western areas, where temperatures may reach 36 degrees. Winds here will be moderate, with strong gusts in some places, particularly in elevated areas.
Thus, Spain is gradually emerging from the grip of extreme heat, although high temperatures and the risk of local thunderstorms persist in some regions. Meteorologists advise residents and visitors to monitor weather updates and take precautions in hot conditions.
