In August 2025, Spainβs automotive market continued to show confident growth. During the month, 61,315 new cars were registered, a 17.2% increase compared to the same period last year. These figures were provided by industry associations of manufacturers, dealers, and automotive retailers.
Experts paid particular attention to electrified vehicles, which include fully electric models and hybrids with plug-in capability. In August, their share of total sales reached 24.4%. In just one month, Spaniards purchased 14,939 such vehicles, 162% more than in August last year.
Since the beginning of 2025, 138,254 electrified vehicles have been sold in Spain, which is almost 8 percentage points more than during the same period in 2024. Electric cars and hybrids thus continue to strengthen their position in the market, reflecting growing consumer interest in environmentally friendly transport.
Total new car sales for the first eight months of the year amounted to 769,452 units, 14.6% more than in the same period last year. Experts note that even in Augustβwhich is traditionally a quiet month for the market as many residents are on holidayβdemand for cars remains high.
The increase in sales is attributed to the gradual recovery of the economy, improved lending conditions, and the expansion of the range of electrified models. Additionally, government programs supporting environmentally friendly transport are encouraging more buyers to choose modern and energy-efficient vehicles.
Analysts predict that by the end of the year, Spain may set new records for sales of electric and hybrid cars. In the coming months, the share of electrified models on the market is expected to continue growing, in line with the broader European trend toward cleaner forms of transport.
The August dynamics confirm that the Spanish automotive market is not only recovering after challenging years, but is also actively shifting toward sustainable development and innovation.
