Storm Gabriel to Hit Spain with Heavy Rain and Strong Winds in the West

Unexpected Weather Shift in Spain: Storm Gabriel to Bring Summer Heat and Rain

In the coming days, western Spain will face rain and gusty winds due to atmospheric changes brought by the remnants of Hurricane Gabriel. Unseasonably warm temperatures are also expected in the southern regions of the country.

Throughout this week, Spain will be affected by a powerful weather front formed from the remnants of Hurricane Gabriel. After passing over the Azores, the cyclone will lose its tropical characteristics and turn into a regular storm, but its impact will be felt in the western part of the Iberian Peninsula.

As the weekend approaches, residents in the western regions of the country will notice worsening weather conditions. Heavy rains, strong winds, and rough seas are expected. The situation will be especially challenging in coastal areas, where waves could reach considerable heights. Meanwhile, in the north and east of the peninsula, as well as in Melilla and the Strait of Gibraltar area, mornings will remain humid: fog and low clouds will persist until midday, after which the sky will clear and temperatures will begin to rise.

From Thursday to Saturday, a notable warm-up is expected across the country. In Andalucía and Extremadura, temperatures will reach 32 degrees, while in Murcia the heat will approach 31. Granada and Cáceres will be slightly cooler, but even there, temperatures will nearly hit 30. The Canary Islands will remain unaffected by severe weather: a mild climate will persist, with occasional brief showers possible.

On Saturday, summer heat will settle in the southern regions. Maximum temperatures are once again expected in Sevilla, Córdoba, and Murcia, while Badajoz and Granada will approach these values. Jaén and Toledo will also join the list of hot spots. The southern half of the country will become something of an epicenter for this weather phenomenon, and nights will remain warm, creating a true summer feel.

Sunday will bring slight changes. The atmosphere will become less stable, and the influence of former Hurricane Gabrielle, now transformed into an extratropical cyclone, may affect the weather in the Atlantic. The exact path of the storm remains uncertain, but it is likely that the heat will persist in the southwest and the Canary Islands, while temperatures will drop slightly in other areas.

The so-called “veranillo de San Miguel” will make itself felt once again: during these days, the anticyclone brings clear skies and warm southern air, allowing residents of Spain to temporarily forget about the arrival of autumn. The combination of light winds and dry weather leads to a sharp rise in daytime temperatures, bringing back a summer atmosphere even in early October.
