The morning in Vilanova i la Geltrú began with a disturbing discovery: a municipal worker, while cleaning Plaça de l’Anxeneta, noticed an abandoned suitcase. Upon opening it, he found human body parts inside. Police officers arrived at the scene shortly afterward, cordoning off the area and beginning their investigation.
Soon after, it was reported that a 24-year-old man had been detained and is believed by investigators to be connected to the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and local residents are discussing the situation, expressing concern. Judicial authorities in Catalunya have already become involved: later in the day, the process of removing the remains for examination and identification of the victim began.
This is the second similar case in the city in the past ten days. Previously, on September 11, another body with signs of violent death was found in Jardins Francesc Macià, which is also located in the Sant Joan area. Two such incidents in a short period have caused concern among residents and local authorities.
The municipality expressed gratitude to the local police for their prompt action, which led to the swift arrest of the suspect. Authorities emphasize that the safety and peace of residents remain a priority and urge caution when disseminating information in order not to hinder the investigation. In an official statement, it was noted that the city has always been known for peaceful coexistence, and the administration intends to do everything possible to preserve this reputation.
