In December 2024, a tragedy occurred near Montserrat, not far from Barcelona—a tragedy that still raises many questions. Isak Andic, founder of the renowned Mango brand, died after falling from a cliff during a walk. That day, he was accompanied only by his eldest son, Jonathan. Was it an accident or something more? The answer remains unknown.
From the beginning, the case proved more complicated than it first seemed. The investigators’ initial report indicated an accident, but soon attention shifted to Jonathan. His explanations appeared confusing, and some details did not add up. Investigators attributed this to extreme stress, yet doubts persisted. At the same time, Isak’s partner, Estefanía Knuth, shared her account of that morning, stating there was no conflict between father and son.
However, behind the scenes of the tragedy, another drama was unfolding. Estefanía and Isak’s three children could not agree on the inheritance. She believed she was entitled to much more than what was offered and demanded a sum exceeding 70 million euros. Negotiations continued in parallel with the criminal investigation, but the parties failed to reach an agreement.
The judge in Martorell did not rush to close the case, opting to consider every possible scenario. Investigators examined the victim’s phone records to reconstruct his route and gain insight into the relationship between father and son. The investigation was repeatedly closed and then reopened due to legal nuances, but the work continued without pause.
Police officers conducted a thorough examination of the scene, running experiments to understand how the tragedy could have occurred on the nearly hundred-meter slope. No direct evidence linking Jonathan to his father’s death was found, but some indirect details raised further questions. After a second interrogation of the deceased’s son, his status changed: he is now not just a witness, but a person of interest in a possible murder case. His phone was seized for analysis, but that, too, failed to provide clear answers.
In the near future, the judge must decide whether to summon Jonathan to testify in his new status or to close the investigation. The prosecutor’s office is also assessing whether there is enough evidence to proceed. The family tragedy, the complicated inheritance dispute, and the lack of clear evidence make this one of the most talked-about cases in Catalonia.
