The Twitch platform has issued an official statement following an incident involving popular streamer Emiru during a fan meet-and-greet at TwitchCon in San Diego. Representatives of the service expressed regret over what happened and announced plans to provide financial support to nonprofit organizations working on sexual assault prevention.
The incident sparked widespread public reaction. During the event, an unidentified man attempted to attack Emiru, but security intervened and prevented the situation from escalating. Nonetheless, Twitch users and other community members voiced concerns about the level of safety at such events.
After the incident, Emiru stated that Twitch representatives did not immediately provide police with information about the attacker, which hampered the investigation and allowed the suspect to escape. The platform later turned over the necessary details to law enforcement, but the victim’s manager was not given access to this information.
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy publicly apologized to Emiru and promised a thorough review of all safety arrangements at company events. Twitch emphasized that they view what happened as a serious signal to reconsider existing protocols and strengthen security measures to protect both participants and guests.
In recognition of Emiru’s efforts to raise awareness about sexual violence, Twitch has announced plans to donate to relevant nonprofit organizations. Details and donation amounts will be disclosed soon.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for stricter security standards at mass events connected to the streaming and digital entertainment industry. The community expects Twitch to take concrete steps to prevent similar incidents in the future and maintain transparent communication with affected individuals.
