A new center has opened in Girona, introducing a fresh approach to supporting people with autism spectrum disorders and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It was founded by Maria Jiménez and Gerard Virolés—both doctors and parents of children with developmental differences. Their personal journey advocating for their sons’ full lives inspired the creation of a space where families receive comprehensive assistance without the need for constant trips to multiple specialists.
The JP Foundation, named after the founders’ children, is housed in a spacious building in Vilablareix near Girona. The center covers almost a thousand square meters and is surrounded by nature, creating a peaceful environment for activities and therapy. Specialists from various fields work here: neurologists, psychiatrists, educators, therapists. The team already supports over thirty children and adults, with plans to expand in the future.
A comprehensive approach: from diagnosis to independent living
At JP, the focus is on creating an individualized path for each person. Everything begins with a diagnosis, followed by a tailored support program that includes education, skill development, and family guidance. Special attention is given to preparing for adulthood: here, people learn not only how to study, but also how to build relationships, handle everyday tasks, and find employment.
The center features specialized rooms for sensory integration and stimulation, as well as areas for individual and group sessions. In the spacious garden, children interact with animals, including dog therapy, which helps them relax and better adapt to the world around them. Parents are offered counseling and support so they don’t have to face challenges alone.
Innovation and Accessibility for All
The foundation’s founders believe that only coordinated teamwork between specialists and family involvement can achieve real results. JP is implementing modern methods of correction and rehabilitation, as well as developing its own programs to address every aspect of life for people with developmental differences. Here, children and adults are not separated by diagnosis—each person receives an individualized approach.
The center is open on weekdays from morning until evening, while weekends feature workshops, creative classes, and educational games. Plans include expanding the range of services and bringing in even more professionals. The project already receives support from local authorities and major companies, making services accessible to a variety of families.

María Jiménez, who leads the foundation, emphasizes their mission: to create a community where everyone feels accepted and protected. At JP, they believe that an inclusive society is only possible when people have support and understanding. Here, it’s not just about treatment or education — it’s about helping people believe in themselves and build a future without fear or loneliness.
In the near future, the center plans to expand its programs to reach even more families and make support as accessible as possible. Girona now has a place where anyone can find help, regardless of age or diagnosis. This is a step toward allowing people with autism and ADHD to live life to the fullest, and their families — not to feel isolated.
