Valencia Authorities Allocate 350 Million Euros to Support Flood Victims

Carlos Mazón launches automatic payments for Valencia residents after the disaster

A new financial aid package has been announced in Valencia for those affected. Assistance will be provided automatically. Regional authorities are increasing the amount of funding allocated. The measures cover various categories of citizens.

At the start of the new political season, the head of the Valencian Community, Carlos Mazón, announced the expansion of the financial support program for residents affected by the devastating flood that struck the region ten months ago. The disaster claimed 228 lives and caused extensive damage.

During a special address at the government building, Mazón announced the allocation of an additional €350 million in funding. These funds are intended for families, car owners, self-employed individuals, and workers who found themselves in difficult circumstances due to the temporary suspension of businesses.

Despite the region’s significant debt, which has already exceeded €60 billion, the authorities have decided to once again turn to credit resources to implement a new wave of payments. Mazón stressed that support will be provided automatically—funds will be transferred directly to the accounts of citizens who have previously received similar assistance.

The new program includes several areas for allocating funds. €120 million will be directed toward urgent needs. Recipients of the initial €6,000 payment will also be eligible for an additional €3,000. Vehicle owners who lost or damaged their cars due to the flooding will receive up to €2,500 in compensation for each vehicle. In total, €171 million under this provision will be distributed among individuals and businesses.

A separate support line of €55 million is allocated for self-employed individuals without employees. Each will receive an additional €3,000. In addition, for 12,000 workers affected by temporary layoffs, an extra payment of €360 is provided, with €4.4 million set aside for this purpose.

Mazón noted that regional authorities intend to continue supporting those in the most vulnerable positions and have no plans to stray from their chosen course, despite the challenging economic climate. He also pointed out that the central government of Spain has fulfilled only part of its payment obligations, while regional authorities are working to simplify the support process for citizens as much as possible.
