Valladolid Emerges as a New Hotspot for Bollywood Filmmaking

Why Indian Film Studios Are Choosing Valladolid for Major Productions – Unexpected Insights

Valladolid is attracting the attention of Indian filmmakers. The city is becoming a popular location for major Bollywood film shoots. Local authorities are supporting the partnership, expecting an increase in tourist interest.

In recent years, Valladolid has unexpectedly found itself in the spotlight of the Indian film industry. A city known for its architecture and cultural traditions, it is now increasingly used as a backdrop for major Bollywood productions. Several films have been shot here in a short period, and in 2025, a team from one of India’s leading studio giants — Yash Raj Films — worked on the city’s streets.

The filming of the movie “Alpha” became a real event for Valladolid. This is not just another film, but the first project of this scale shot in Spain featuring Bollywood stars. The city was not chosen by chance: its diverse architecture, compact size, and the friendliness of local residents made Valladolid an ideal location for filming. Representatives from the Indian studio noted that they were able to implement their creative ideas here without unnecessary complications, and that the city services and residents provided maximum support.

Interestingly, Valladolid has long had ties to the world of cinema. The prestigious Seminci film festival is held here annually, and over the past decade, the city has hosted more than four hundred film crews. However, it was Bollywood projects that brought international recognition to Valladolid. The first Indian film was shot here back in 2018, followed by new projects, including Spanish-Indian collaborations.

The musical scenes filmed in Valladolid are already racking up millions of views on YouTube, and local authorities are confident this is just the beginning. The city is counting on an influx of tourists from India, as the vibrant film scenes may inspire audiences to follow in the footsteps of their favorite characters. Valladolid is actively promoting itself as a location for new shoots, and tourism representatives are already in discussions with Indian producers about future projects.

It is worth noting that Valladolid is not just a random choice for Bollywood. The city is home to the only Casa de la India in Spain, and cultural ties between the city and the Asian country are growing ever stronger. Locals see the filming not as a nuisance, but as an exciting event that adds a special charm to the city. Authorities are confident that cooperation with Bollywood is just beginning, and that Valladolid is set for many more dazzling premieres and new cinematic discoveries.
