Who Profits from Spain’s Proliferation of New V16 Emergency Beacons?

The Untold Story of the V16 Market: How 29 Companies Split Billions and Why Prices Vary So Drastically

From 2026, Spanish drivers must purchase a V16 beacon. The market offers hundreds of models, but control rests with just 29 firms. We uncover who’s making money—and how to find a better deal.

The Billion-Euro V16 Market: How New Rules Are Changing the Landscape

Starting in 2026, a new mandate will come into force in Spain: every driver must have a V16 emergency beacon in their car. This measure has already triggered a surge in demand for these devices. Estimates suggest there are over 28 million registered drivers in the country, and nearly 25 million vehicles will need to be equipped with the new beacons. The average price for a device is about €45, creating a market valued at over a billion euros in just the first year of the new requirement.

The rollout of the V16 beacon is not just a safety matter—it’s become a major revenue stream for manufacturers. A fine of up to €200 is now imposed for not having the beacon, further boosting demand. As a result, the market is controlled by a limited group of companies fiercely competing for a share of this lucrative segment.

Who Controls Production: Spanish and Asian Players

Today, 29 companies dominate the V16 market, having secured official approval to produce these devices. Only seven are Spanish—Oversunenergy, Mirovi, Plásticos Erum, Broad Telecom, Energía Eléctrica Eficiente, Atressa Global Corporation, and Kepar Electrónica. However, their overall share is small: they are responsible for just 29 out of the 243 models available on the market.

The majority of these devices come from Asia, where production costs are significantly lower. The Chinese company Ningbo Chakesi Electronic, operating for Limburg Technology Limited, leads the market: this manufacturer alone offers 110 models, accounting for nearly half of all available options. Spanish firms, despite their local presence, cannot compete on price with Asian manufacturers, whose devices can sometimes cost half as much.

Prices and Selection: How Not to Overpay for a V16

Most V16 models are sold at prices ranging from 45 to 55 euros, but more affordable options can also be found on the market. Some devices, offered on popular online platforms, cost less than 30 euros. For example, SOOS V16, eBOX V16 IoT, or Extrastar MOD-V16 models can be bought for 20–25 euros. These deals are especially appealing to those who want to avoid overspending but are required to comply with the new regulations.

All approved V16 models can be found publicly on the DGT website. By comparing and searching carefully, you can pick an option that will last at least 12 years. This allows drivers not only to comply with the law but also to save a significant amount of money.

The Future of the Market: Competition and Prospects

As the number of manufacturers and models grows, competition in the V16 market is intensifying. Spanish companies are striving to maintain their positions by focusing on quality and innovation, but for now, they lag behind Asian competitors in terms of price. Over the next few years, further price drops and new technological solutions are expected.

For drivers, it’s important not only to choose a certified tracker, but also to consider its lifespan, warranty, and software update options. With tough competition in the market, manufacturers will offer extra features to attract buyers. So, despite the mandatory purchase, motorists still have choices—and the opportunity to save money.
