On Friday morning, an unusual incident occurred at a hotel in Alcorcón (Madrid) when one of the guests sought assistance after being stung by a scorpion. Hotel staff immediately called emergency services, and police and medical personnel soon arrived at the scene.
The injured woman was quickly taken to Fundación Alcorcón Hospital, where doctors evaluated her condition. The medical staff conducted all necessary examinations to determine whether specific treatment was needed. After the assessment, she was prescribed medication to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Fortunately, her condition was not cause for concern, and she was able to leave the hospital the same day.
Preliminary assumptions suggest that the venomous animal may have entered the room with the guest’s own luggage. Although certain types of scorpions are found on the Iberian Peninsula, such incidents in urban environments are extremely rare. Typically, these creatures prefer wilder and more remote areas, far from people.
A scorpion sting can cause a wide range of symptoms—from severe pain and swelling to fever, vomiting, and even breathing difficulties in severe cases. In Europe, most scorpions are not considered life-threatening, but it is crucial to seek medical attention immediately if a sting is suspected. The quick response of hotel staff and timely medical assistance helped prevent serious health consequences for the victim.
