The professional cycling team Israel-Premier Tech has announced its decision not to participate in the upcoming Italian classics. The management, led by Sylvan Adams, has opted out of the Giro dell’Emilia, which was scheduled to take place in Bologna on Saturday, as well as the Trittico Lombardo series. This series includes the Coppa Agostoni, Coppa Bernocchi, and Tre Valli Varesine, scheduled respectively for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
The organizers of the Italian events expressed understanding regarding this decision. Representatives of US Legnanese 1913 and Binda noted that they respect Israel-Premier Tech’s choice to forgo the Coppa Bernocchi and Tre Valli Varesine. According to them, the team has the right to determine its own strategy under the current circumstances.
The reason for their withdrawal was a series of recent events surrounding the team that sparked heated debates. During the Spanish stage race La Vuelta, the team came under pressure from participants in pro-Palestinian demonstrations. The protests reached such a level of intensity during the final stage in Madrid that organizers were forced to cancel the concluding race.
Amid rising tensions, Israel-Premier Tech decided to temporarily withdraw from major international competitions. According to management, this move is intended to de-escalate the situation and ensure the safety of athletes and staff. The team emphasizes that maintaining a calm working environment and the ability to focus on sporting goals remain top priorities.
It is not yet known when the team will return to international competitions. The organizers of the Italian races expressed hope that the team will appear at the starting line in Italy again in the future. Such decisions are rare in professional cycling, but the current situation has forced Israel-Premier Tech to reconsider its plans.
