The Barcelona football club finishes the seventh round of the national championship at the top of the standings. In the match against the team from San Sebastián, the Catalans once again had to come from behind during the game to achieve the desired result.
From the opening minutes, the home side faced strong resistance from their opponents. Guest goalkeeper Álex Remiro repeatedly saved his team, while the Basque defense played in an organized manner and did not allow dangerous moments near their goal. However, after Lamine Yamal came onto the field, the situation changed. With only his second touch, the young player sparked an attack that ended with a precise shot from Robert Lewandowski. From that point on, the Catalans fully seized the initiative.
Hansi Flick’s squad was once again adjusted due to injuries. Wojciech Szczęsny appeared in goal, replacing the injured Joan García. The inclusion of 17-year-old Dro in the starting lineup was unexpected; he was given an opportunity to prove himself due to the absence of Fermín and Raphinha, as well as ahead of an important match against PSG. However, the young player was unable to make an impact in attack and was substituted at halftime. Lamine Yamal returned to the squad but started the match on the bench, giving Rooney a chance to get playing time.
The first dangerous moment was created by the visitors from a set piece, when Oyarzabal headed just wide. The Catalans responded with a corner routine: Pedri delivered the ball, De Jong flicked it on, and Rashford took a shot on goal, but Remiro made the save. Sergio Francisco’s tactical setup allowed the Basques to contain their opponents’ attacks, while long-range efforts from Araujo and Rooney posed no threat. Midway through the half, the visitors took advantage of a counterattack: Guedes and Barrenechea launched a drive forward, and Odriozola finished at the far post to open the scoring.
The goal conceded forced the hosts to step up their efforts. At this point, Remiro again showed his skills, stopping dangerous shots from Rashford and Rooney, and also preventing an own goal by Zubeldia. However, just before halftime, Jules Kounde equalized after a corner kick, restoring parity.
In the second half, Dani Olmo came on to replace Dro. The coaching staff counted on his presence in attack, and soon after Lamine Yamal came on in the 58th minute, the Catalans took the lead. Yamal delivered a precise pass that Lewandowski converted with a header. The Polish striker, who had previously been quiet, became much more prominent after this moment.
After the second goal, the hosts took complete control of the game. The Basques tried to mount attacks in response, but were closer to conceding again. The San Sebastián club made several substitutions, and Kubo struck the crossbar after a Kounde error, before Lewandowski also hit the woodwork following a pass from Ferran.
Another hard-fought comeback win by the Catalans has solidified their position at the top of the table ahead of their Champions League clash with the French club.
