In the match at the stadium in Getafe, the Madrid club struggled for a long time to break through the opponent’s defense. The breakthrough came when Arda Güler spotted an open space and delivered a precise pass to Kylian Mbappé. The French striker, staying onside, received the ball and, despite goalkeeper David Soria’s attempt to block the shot, sent it into the net for his fifteenth goal of the current season.
This result marks a personal record for Mbappé: previously, his best achievement was 13 goals in the first 11 matches of the 2018-2019 season, when he played for PSG. Back then, his contribution accounted for just over a third of the team’s total goals. Now, Mbappé’s share of Madrid’s goals has reached 55.6% — 15 out of 27.
In the previous seasons, 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, the Frenchman also scored more than 10 goals in the first eleven matches, but his current performance is significantly higher. For comparison, last year, when Mbappé had just joined Real, he scored seven times in the same period, accounting for 30.4% of the team’s total goals.
Currently, his scoring rate is twice as high as in his debut season in Madrid, which he finished with 44 goals, earning the La Liga top scorer title and the Golden Boot. In Europe, Mbappé trails only Harry Kane of Bayern, who has scored 19 goals in 11 matches. Erling Haaland of Manchester City follows with 14 goals, though he has played one game fewer.
After Karim Benzema’s departure to Saudi Arabia, the Madrid club urgently needed a new attacking leader. Mbappé quickly stepped into this role: 10 goals in nine La Liga rounds, and another five in two Champions League matches. Such a strong start hadn’t been seen since the 2014-2015 season, when Cristiano Ronaldo scored 17 times in the same period. Neither the Portuguese star nor Benzema ever matched those numbers again.
Today, Mbappé fulfills the expectations that accompanied his move to Madrid. The club’s management and fans had long awaited this transfer while the Frenchman continued playing for PSG. His first year in Spain was successful, though not without challenges. With Xabi Alonso joining as head coach, Mbappé firmly established himself as the leader and key player for Real Madrid. His current form confirms that the French forward is experiencing the best period of his career.
