On the evening of September 28, 2025, the Spanish TV channel La 1 once again topped the ratings with the broadcast of the film “Oppenheimer.” The premiere of the movie, which won the Oscar for Best Picture, drew nearly 1.3 million viewers. The audience share reached 13.7%—one of the highest figures for Sunday nights this season.
Director Christopher Nolan created a film that not only sparked interest among movie enthusiasts but also significantly boosted the average ratings for the program “La película de la semana.” Compared to the previous Sunday, when “Civil War” was aired, ratings increased by 3.7 percentage points. At that time, the audience share was 10%, with just over a million viewers.
This time, La 1 managed to surpass even the discussion of the reality show “Supervivientes All Stars,” which traditionally attracts a large audience. The broadcast of “Oppenheimer” became the second most-watched film among all those aired on the channel on Sundays this year.
In September, “La película de la semana” featured other notable premieres. On September 7, viewers saw the drama “El maestro que prometió el mar,” which attracted a 12.1% share and 1.145 million viewers. On September 14, the thriller “El piloto” aired, achieving a 13.4% share and 1.412 million viewers. A week later, on September 21, “Civil War” was watched by 1.077 million people, accounting for 10% of the audience.
The broadcast of ‘Oppenheimer’ not only strengthened La 1’s position among its competitors, but also confirmed the Spanish audience’s interest in major international premieres. In a highly competitive television market, successfully choosing which film to air has become a key factor in maintaining market leadership.
