Which Cars Became the Most Popular in Spain in 2025

Dacia Sandero surprises the market: Toyota, MG, and Hyundai compete for the top spot

The Spanish car market is showing strong growth. New models and hybrids are gaining attention. Sales are returning to pre-crisis levels. Leading brands are strengthening their positions.

In 2025, Spain’s automotive market is seeing a significant revival after a prolonged period of instability. The economic situation has stabilized, lending conditions have improved, and fuel prices have stopped fluctuating sharply. All of this has contributed to increased demand for new cars.

Buyers are increasingly choosing vehicles with low operating costs and high fuel efficiency. In response to these expectations, manufacturers have expanded their range of hybrid models and introduced more affordable options. Notably, Toyota, Dacia, and MG have quickly resonated with Spanish car buyers.

Forecasts suggest that by the end of the year, the number of new registrations will exceed 1.1 million, nearly 10% higher than the previous year. Automakers expect that a stable economic environment and traditional year-end promotions will help maintain a positive sales trend.

Among the most popular models, the Dacia Sandero has once again taken the lead. This compact car from the Romanian brand, part of the Renault group, sold nearly 23,000 units. Buyers choose it for its affordability, ease of maintenance, and fuel efficiency. The Sandero is available in petrol, gas, and hybrid versions, with a starting price of €13,525.

Second place goes to the MG ZS. This crossover from the British brand, owned by the Chinese conglomerate SAIC Motor, quickly established itself on the market thanks to its successful combination of price and quality. Over 15,000 units were sold during the year.

Japanese automaker Toyota continues to hold a strong position. Four of the brand’s models made the top ten: Yaris Cross, C-HR, Corolla, and Yaris. The company has reinforced its reputation as a reliable and eco-friendly manufacturer by offering exclusively hybrid versions. The Yaris Cross ranked third, with more than 11,500 units sold. Following it is the C-HR, which saw sales reach 9,300 units thanks to its refreshed design and the introduction of plug-in hybrids. The Corolla and Yaris also saw steady demand.

The Hyundai Tucson, with 8,400 registrations, has become one of the country’s most popular SUVs. Buyers appreciate its spacious interior, modern exterior, and reasonable price.

Despite lacking electric versions and facing internal competition from Volkswagen models, SEAT Ibiza ranked sixth with sales of 8,300 units.

The Dacia Duster has retained its status as the most sought-after budget crossover. The new generation features an improved design and equipment while maintaining its practicality. Key advantages include an ECO environmental badge and a spacious 472-liter trunk.

Rounding out the top ten is the KIA Sportage. This Korean SUV offers a wide range of engine options, including petrol, diesel, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid versions. The latest models feature a modern interior and an expanded suite of technologies.

September 2025 was a record month for the Spanish passenger car market, with sales exceeding those of the same month in 2019 for the first time. Over 85,000 vehicles were sold, up 16% from the previous year. Since the beginning of the year, nearly 855,000 new cars have been registered, which is 15% higher than last year’s figure. Annual sales are expected to surpass 1.1 million units, although the market still lags behind pre-crisis 2019 levels by about 11%.

Experts note that the growth in sales of electrified models is driving overall market development. These vehicles consistently account for 20% of sales. Steady demand for new cars is crucial for maintaining employment in the country’s automotive industry.
