Mallorca Unveils New Four-Day Cycling Route Through the Most Scenic Spots of the Serra de Tramuntana Mountains

Mallorca desconocida: una ruta secreta para un viaje en bicicleta perfecto.

Discover the heart of Mallorca by bike. This new four-day route takes you through the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, ancient olive groves, and the island’s most beautiful villages, including Sóller and Fornalutx. The perfect blend of sport, culture, and nature—far from the hustle and bustle of tourist crowds.

The authorities of the Balearic Islands have developed a new cycling route for avid cyclists, offering a four-day journey through Mallorca’s untouched nature and authentic culture. The tour traverses the island’s rural heartland, winding through the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, renowned for its centuries-old olive groves, stone villages, and panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Although the route is not officially designated and lacks specific signage, it connects existing roads and trails perfectly suited for cycling excursions. Most of the path follows paved roads with minimal car traffic, making it both safe and comfortable. The itinerary is designed to be adaptable for any fitness level, since daily rides are relatively short, though some stretches include elevation gain.

The first day of the journey begins in the town of Sóller, where participants arrive aboard a historic train from Palma. This railway itself is a local attraction, passing through numerous tunnels and viaducts. In Sóller, visitors are encouraged to visit a traditional olive oil mill, stroll along the old streets, and end the day in Port de Sóller, sampling the region’s iconic orange ice cream—a local culinary specialty.

On the second day, cyclists head to Puigpunyent. This area immerses travelers in an atmosphere of tranquility and seclusion. The landscape here is shaped by hills covered with vineyards and olive groves that have retained their pristine appearance for centuries.

The third stage of the route presents a more serious challenge—a climb to Castell d’Alaró, a popular spot among road cyclists training on the island. Halfway up lies the Es Verger restaurant, where you can make a stop. The remaining journey to the castle ruins must be done on foot, but the panoramic views from the top make the effort worthwhile.

The four-day journey ends in the village of Fornalutx, which is officially recognized as one of the most beautiful in Spain. It is renowned for its perfectly preserved rural architecture, well-kept farmland, and unique location at the top of the valley. This route is a wonderful opportunity to discover a different side of Mallorca, away from crowded beaches, and to enjoy its cultural and natural heritage at a leisurely pace.
