Just an hour’s drive from the hustle and bustle of Madrid, in the heart of the Castilian plain, nature has crafted a true wonder, hidden from most tourist radars. This place is the perfect one-day escape for those seeking tranquility, breathtaking scenery, and light physical activity. We’re talking about the trail leading to the Risco de Valdeprados gorge in the Segovia province, which offers travelers more than just a walk in the fresh air. It’s an immersion into the geological history of the region, where time seems to stand still.
The highlight of this journey is, without a doubt, the canyon itself. Imagine a narrow passage about three hundred meters long, its walls soaring forty meters high. These sheer cliffs, polished by the Moros River over millions of years, tell the ancient story of the land. Geological layers are exposed here, revealing a striking mix of Paleozoic gneiss and Cretaceous limestone. From the higher points of the trail, which serve as natural lookouts, stunning panoramic views open up. The walking trail itself, which begins at the charming village of Valdeprados, stretches for about five and a half kilometers.
