In 2025, 238 modern electric vehicle charging stations will be installed in the parking lots of 59 Alimerka supermarkets across Asturias, Castilla y León, and Galicia. The project is being carried out in partnership with the energy company Iberdrola and aims to develop infrastructure for eco-friendly transport in northern regions of Spain.
Most of the new charging points will be located in Asturias, where 42 stores will be equipped. In Castilla y León, stations will be set up at 15 supermarkets, and two more points will open in the city of Lugo in Galicia. All the charging devices will offer varying power levels to meet the different needs of drivers. For example, some stations will allow you to add 100 kilometers of range in just three minutes, while fully charging a vehicle will take up to 45 minutes—an added convenience for those who plan to shop while their car charges.
The new stations will operate exclusively on electricity generated from renewable sources, certified by origin. This approach helps reduce dependence on fossil fuels and minimizes negative environmental impact.
Alimerka continues to implement sustainable solutions in its operations, prioritizing the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and supporting the development of electric mobility. For customers, this means not only added convenience but also the opportunity to contribute to environmental protection simply by visiting their usual stores.
For Iberdrola, this project is part of a large-scale strategy to develop electromobility in Spain. The company plans to install 100,000 charging stations nationwide by 2025, covering homes, businesses, and public spaces. A special focus is placed on building a network of fast chargers along highways, in cities, and small towns, ensuring that the distance between stations does not exceed 50 kilometers.
The installation of new charging points will be carried out by the joint venture Iberdrola|bp pulse, which already leads in the number of ultra-fast charging stations in Spain and Portugal. They currently operate more than 1,400 active charging points.
Alimerka notes that expanding the charging network is not only a step toward sustainable development, but also a way to make shopping more convenient for customers who drive electric vehicles. Iberdrola emphasizes the importance of corporate collaboration to accelerate the shift to eco-friendly transport and improve air quality in cities and towns.
As a result of the partnership between Alimerka and Iberdrola, residents and visitors in northern Spain will be able to charge their electric vehicles during regular shopping trips, making green transport more accessible and appealing to a wider audience.
