MG shakes up Spain with the S6 EV crossover and 20 new models by 2027

MG to introduce 20 new electric vehicles in Spain by 2027

MG strengthens its presence in Spain by launching the S6 EV and three new models by summer. The company plans to release 20 hybrid and electric cars by 2027, despite criticism of state support conditions for Chinese brands

MG is changing the game in the Spanish market, focusing on electrification and an aggressive expansion of its model lineup. By this summer, three new models will debut, and by 2027 the company plans to offer Spaniards twenty hybrid and electric vehicles. No other Chinese manufacturer in Europe has shown such pace. MG is open about its ambitions: in 2025, the brand sold 45,000 vehicles in Spain, reaching the top ten in sales. Now, the goal is to consolidate that success and ramp up pressure on competitors.

The spotlight is on the MG S6 EV, a large electric SUV measuring 4.7 meters in length. This model launches a new wave of rollouts: following it will be the updated MG 4, the S9, and the MG 4 Urban. As early as next year, the company promises to introduce a new model every 20 days. All new vehicles will feature advanced batteries and support fast charging—especially important for city residents and those frequently traveling between regions.

A new strategy

MG openly voices dissatisfaction with government support conditions: according to brand representatives, subsidy allocation criteria under the Plan Auto + program put Chinese manufacturers at a disadvantage compared to European counterparts. Despite this, the company has decided to make up the difference with its own discounts and special offers at dealerships. Buyers of the MG S6 EV can expect a direct price reduction of up to €4,500, making the model especially attractive compared to competitors.

The MG S6 EV stands out not only for its price but also for its practicality. A wheelbase of nearly 2.9 meters provides ample rear seat space, while the trunk offers 674 liters of capacity. An additional front compartment holds 124 liters. Inside, there is a 10.5-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.8-inch central screen controlling all functions. The Head up Display system uses augmented reality technology, a rare feature in this segment.

Technical details

Two versions of the MG S6 EV are available to buyers: the rear-wheel drive Long Range 4×2 with 244 hp and the all-wheel drive AWD, delivering a combined output of 361 hp. Both models are fully electric and receive a zero-emission DGT label. The crossover features a smooth suspension and excellent sound insulation, with energy consumption not exceeding 20 kWh per 100 km. In urban cycles, the range reaches 700 km, setting the S6 EV apart from its competitors.

MG employs a flexible pricing strategy: the S6 EV starts at 38,000 euros, but after applying all discounts and support programs, the final price is significantly lower. The package includes financing bonuses, exclusive subsidies, and additional benefits from Plan Auto +. This approach allows MG to compete with the Tesla Model Y and other major market players.

Chinese brands and the market

In recent years, Chinese car manufacturers have increasingly viewed Spain as a key market for expansion. MG has shown it can not only ramp up sales quickly but also set new standards in the electric vehicle segment. According to russpain.com, interest in Chinese brands is growing amid ongoing uncertainty around European plants and changes in government support structures. In this context, it’s worth recalling the recent debate about the future of the Ford plant in Valencia — китайские компании уже ведут переговоры о новых инвестициях в регионе.

MG, a brand with British roots, has shifted to large-scale electric and hybrid vehicle production since coming under the control of Chinese group SAIC Motor. The brand quickly gained popularity across Europe thanks to a combination of affordable prices and modern technology. In Spain, MG is actively expanding its dealer network and offers a wide range of models aimed at different customer categories. The company prioritizes innovation and aims to become a leading player in the electric vehicle segment despite facing challenges from regulators and competitors.
