Two Drivers Killed in Head-On Collision on N-240 Highway in Catalonia. Two cars collided on the N-240 highway in Montblanc overnight. Both drivers died at the scene. Traffic was blocked until morning, and law enforcement is investigating the causes of the accident.

Two people were killed in a head-on collision on the N-240 highway near Montblanc (Tarragona). The accident occurred late in the evening when two cars collided, each with only the driver inside. According to Servei Català de Trànsit, both men died at the scene.

The emergency services received the accident report at 22:04. The incident happened at kilometer 36.4 of the N-240 highway, which connects major transport hubs in the region. The crash claimed the lives of a 27-year-old resident of L'Espluga de Francolí and a 50-year-old man from El Pont d'Armentera, both residents of Tarragona province. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

Emergency response and restrictions

Three patrols of the Mossos d'Esquadra, four Bombers de la Generalitat fire brigades, and three SEM ambulances responded to the scene. Rescuers had to extract the victims from the wrecked vehicles. The accident completely closed the highway until 03:15 a.m., and road restrictions remained in place in the morning while the investigation continued.

Causes and consequences

The cause of the collision has yet to be determined—the police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the accident. According to Servei Català de Trànsit, this incident is among the most serious road accidents in Catalonia this year. Since the beginning of the year, 38 people have died on the region's roads.

The N-240 highway remains one of the busiest in Tarragona province, and any major accidents on this section lead to severe traffic jams and require prompt response by emergency services. Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution and take possible traffic restrictions in the affected area into account.
