Acciona stock rose over 3% after EQT and Norges Bank teamed up to bid for Acciona Energía, reshaping the sale process and offering a path to faster debt reduction.

Acciona shares climbed more than 3% on the Ibex 35 after EQT and Norges Bank Investment Management announced a joint bid for Acciona Energía. The partnership quickly became the main focus of the ongoing sale, boosting Acciona’s valuation and drawing renewed interest in its renewable energy business. According to Reuters, EQT will hold 75% of the consortium, with Norges Bank Investment Management taking the remaining 25%.

With this move, EQT and Norges Bank are now the main competitors to the French fund Ardian, after KKR and Blackstone dropped out. The field has narrowed, and the process is now centered on a few large institutional players. Investors responded by pushing Acciona’s stock higher, expecting a premium for its clean energy assets. Expansion reports that the sale has moved past the initial non-binding offers, and Acciona Energía is now meeting with the most interested bidders ahead of price confirmations expected in October.

"EQT is participating in the bid through its infrastructure division, which is considered well-suited for long-term ownership of renewable energy assets."

For Acciona, selling part or all of its renewables arm is a way to cut net debt and improve capital efficiency. Norges Bank’s involvement adds financial stability and increases the likelihood of a deal. The expected cash injection would let Acciona invest more in higher-margin areas like infrastructure and water, strengthening its balance sheet. Reuters cites market sources who estimate the deal’s enterprise value between 11 and 11.9 billion euros, while Spanish media mention a benchmark above 8 billion euros for a controlling stake.

This comes as interest rates have steadied, easing some pressure on infrastructure companies with heavy debt. The renewed interest in quality green assets shows that institutional investors are shifting priorities after a period of market adjustment. Acciona stands out on the Ibex 35 for its ability to take advantage of this environment. Analysts say the main goal is to reduce leverage and free up capital for core businesses.

Year-to-date figures as of September 15, 2026, show Acciona up 5.82%, while Acciona Energía is down 7.87%. The market’s reaction highlights the value seen in the renewables business and the potential for a strategic reset if the sale goes ahead.

"The shortlist of bidders has narrowed, with KKR and BlackRock/GIP exiting the process. Remaining contenders include EQT, Ardian, and Brookfield, with final price confirmations expected in October and a potential agreement targeted by year-end."

While the Spanish market has seen plenty of high-profile deals, the contest for Acciona Energía stands out for its size and impact. The result will shape Acciona’s future portfolio and signal how global investors view Spanish green assets.

This is a clear example of a company repositioning itself in a sector where timing and credibility matter. Acciona’s management has used international interest to unlock value and strengthen its finances. The EQT-Norges bid signals a shift away from passive ownership in Spanish renewables. For Acciona, acting decisively with strong partners is turning hidden value into real gains.
